Made from walnut heartwood and topped with a hand-crafted brass plate. The “Duramen” series focuses on the heart of the tree; every piece in this series is unique and highlights the wood’s natural grain.
Jules Lobgeois’s work is shaped by a guiding idea: art applied to life. After studying industrial design and approaching the question of function with rigor, he turned his attention to applying that training to traditional craft techniques. He apprenticed with a metalworker, then with wood sculptor Kaspar Hamacher, discovering a deep affinity for both materials and deciding to create objects that bring them together. The organic nature of wood, rigid enough to hold the sculptor’s taut lines, meets metal, fixed in place through a poetic union. The strength of his pieces lies in the interplay of volumes he carefully reveals: protruding muscles or futuristic curves, whose lines give as much to light as they do to shadow. The essence of his work is also found in what remains invisible—an homage to raw material and its untamed presence. More than a creative process, this is a way of life, a stance consciously taken by Jules : that of the sculptor-farmer, working in direct contact with the living world.

"Traces, manufacturing processes, and accidents are marks of time that animate the material. We find different layers and stages of alteration, natural or artificial, whose status remains ambiguous. My creative process begins when I walk or wander around the city, collecting materials and artifacts. A found object has narrative potential and, due to the diversity of its origins, can be the source of multiple stories. Working with this object becomes a constraint that is integral to my work. Sometimes we discover a suspended landscape. The mobiles are composed mainly of stones, wood, and metal found during these searches. A system of supports, balances, and tensions is required, intertwining the rough edges and unique shapes of the levitating elements. Each installation functions as a universe, where bodies and forms dialogue in space, developing relationships and connections between them.”
